We are pleased to announce/confirm that today [March 2, 2010], the Metropolitan Kappa Youth Foundation completed a tuition assistance payment of $500.00 on behalf of Keith Budd to Montgomery College. Keith Budd is a member of the Poolesville, Jackson-Budd Family, and I believe the first of the children to attend college.

I would be remiss if I did not mention that our dedicated Treasurer, Sean Bailey made the payment in-person at Montgomery College.

As many of you are aware, the Foundation allocated a total of $1,500 toward tuition assistance for the three (3)  college-aged children of that family. While the MKYF has been primarily focused on the awarding of scholarships to outstanding young achievers in Montgomery County, the Board felt that these young people were also deserving of assistance toward their pursuit of higher education.

This family was selected as a winner of the reality TV show “Extreme Makeover” and was subsequently backed by the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. as a family that would be supported through their difficult times.  As the philanthropic arm of the Silver Spring (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. we continue to support this family in their efforts to succeed.  For more on this family and their extreme makeover experience, see the links below:
