A native of New Orleans, LA, I am the older of two sons. We were raised by my mother and extend family and attended public schools prior to pursuing our own adventures away from home in the early sixties. I lived and pursued my academic, professional, spiritual, and personal interests in several regions and cities in the United States. I consider myself blessed and privileged to be mentored by outstanding individuals and opportunities to work on significant projects that benefited individuals, institutions, and communities.

I returned to the DMV in 2016 following the passing of my wife to live with my daughter and family. I remarried in 2018 to Helen Mays in 2018. I have six rapidly becoming senior children; now nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. They live locally, in southern Virginia, and in Ohio. My undergraduate Kappa Alpha Psi Chapter is Xi Chapter, 1963.

My hobbies include gourmet cooking, specializing in baking. I enjoy writing, bid whist, and recreational bridge. Most recently I have expanded my writing hobby to self-publishing a spiritual trilogy for children which should be published in late 2024.

Educational-Professional-Spiritual Synopsis

I retired as a registered architect after more than fifty-five years of experience following my undergraduate professional degree studies in architecture at Howard University in 1967. In 1986 I received a master’s degree in landscape architecture from the University to enrich my practice in architecture. tic, and southern regions. In serving in these diverse capacities, I became acutely aware of the expectations of public- and private-sector clients and the role the design and management professionals play in empowering their vision and needs.

My professional experience includes facility programming and design; urban design, master planning; landscape design; facilities best financial practices reviews; teaching, and administration. Since retirement in May 2015, I have been active in my home churches in Cleveland, Silver Spring, and now Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, as well as focusing on leading a small group ministry for senior adults and men. In addition, since moving to the DMV to live with my daughter’s family in 2016 I assisted her with the Cub Scouts.

I have served in both private- and public-sector capacities in the northeast, Midwest, central and south Atlanta. My project portfolio includes rapid transit and multi-nodal facilities; K-12 and university buildings; historic preservation and cultural resource planning for public buildings and neighborhoods; medium-density sustainable urban housing; program management for a K-12 school districts and state building authorities; and facilities best practices reviews for K-12 school districts in Florida, Texas, Tennessee, and Delaware.

I have also served in advisory capacities on the Board of Zoning Appeals in Boston and the state Agency for Minority Business Financial Assistance in Columbus, OH. My community service activities included serving as a board member on a community service organization in Boston, MA, and a CDC in Toledo, OH.

Given this diversity of experience I hope to bring it forward to Silver Spring Alumni Chapter and to the Foundation to enable them to achieve, with excellence their vision and mission.
